About Chyna

I was born and raised in South London. I  discovered my  voice singing in church at the age of 3. At the age of 17; drawing from my Jamaican roots; I  made my singing debut with the Reggae band SilkTones.

Moving on my initial style, I spent some time singing with African jazz bands and eventually met with Peter Gabriel who introduced me to the world of rock. I  sang on his ‘SO’ album which included the Grammy Award winning song ‘ Sledgehammer’. Soon after I  had a top ten hit with ‘Roadblock’, produced by Stock Aitken and Waterman.

I  later formed a close working relationship with Pete Townsend and teamed up with him to record a duet on his Iron Man album. By this time my  talent as a singer/ songwriter had earned me a deal with A&M Records.

In 1989 I  toured America with the Who, and on my return formed my own seven-piece band. Singing regularly in clubs, I soon developed a huge underground following. One of my greatest fans at this time was Seal and in 1995 he asked me to support him with my own band on his ‘ Kiss of the Rose ‘European Tour.

I also co-wrote “Don’t Be A Stranger” which reached number 3 in the British charts, sung by Dianna Carroll.

In 1997 I met and formed a working relationship with Eric Clapton. Eric invited me to sing on his “Pilgrim” Album, and then requested me to sing in his band on his 1998 world tour.

I was also modelling a lot and was also being asked to model for leading fashion designers, and  I was the featured model on the front cover of “Ultimate Pilates - Achieve The Perfect Body Shape”, written by Dreas Reyneke.

In 1999 I  took three years out of my musical and modelling career and studied the Alexander Technique. I had developed a serous lower back problem from wearing high heels constantly, and knowing more about the Alexander Technique and studying it, became my only cure.

During my studies I developed  and researched the concept of how to master the art of wearing high heels. I was able to wear high heels again, and suffered no back pain any more. I continued to research and develop the concept  for the next ten years, and launch Walking in Stilettos in 2010 which is  a company that teaches women how to walk gracefully  in high heels with the use of the Alexander Technique.
